PROWESS

Description

Prowess is a 47’ Eldredge-McInnis designed cutter built by the Stockden yard in Detroit, MI in 1947. Her hull form is shared with Eldredge-McInnis’s Eastward schooners, but she was built with a tall Marconi cutter rig to suit the predominantly light winds on the Great Lakes. Prowess, then called the Bonne Homme Richard, was found languishing in the Cleveland waterfront in 1984 and was brought east to Cape Elizabeth, ME to be restored by a team that would become Portland Yacht Services.

There is no doubt that Prowess will be the prettiest boat in any harbor.

It was a complete, three-year refit. The ballast was dropped, deck, cabin house, and interior removed for access. Much of the framing, planking and backbone was replaced. She received a new deck, a new wider cabin house, updated interior, new engine, and modern systems and rigging. Prowess has been stored with Portland Yacht Services since and has been very well cared for, thoughtfully and regularly updated. She looks great, sails beautifully and is in turn-key condition.
