SWALLOW
Description Swallow is a beautiful and very responsive classic, designed by Chuck Paine and built by Morris Yachts. Given her traditional looks and comfortable interior, Swallow is deceptively fast. A pleasantly surprised 2019 charter reported a max speed of 7.8 kts, and average speeds well above expectations. She is well equipped and set up for easy handling by a couple or a solo sailor, with new Garmin Fantom radar and 9” plotter installed for the 2022 season. In 2020 Swallow got a new Betamarine 20hp engine with 3-blade feathering prop, and a new dodger from Gemini Marine Canvas in Rockland. In 2021, Swallow had a complete bottom job and much interior varnish and paint work. In 2022, in addition to the new electronics, the steering pedestal was rebuilt, and an upgraded charging system was installed.
Accommodates up to five but most comfortable for a couple or small family. Swallow is finished below deck with white bulkheads, varnished mahogany and cherry trim, and oiled cedar ceiling. Cushions are 4” foam with dark green Sunbrella. V-berth forward has a drop-in filler to form a double berth. Full-length shelves above and drop-face lockers below. Large deck prisms above each berth give natural light. A forward-facing port with screen brings in the breeze at when anchor, along with an overhead hatch. Next aft is head with solid oval doors closing it off from both V-berth and main cabin. Jabsco manual head to starboard, replumbed in 2019. A stainless sink with manual freshwater pump slides in for use on bronze tracks. Large hanging locker to port. 2 opening ports with screens. This is an arrangement common in the later Morris Leigh models, providing very good space and privacy. The main cabin has settee berths port and starboard with storage lockers and shelves above. Cherry cabin table with leaves port and starboard and built-in wine storage. Aft to starboard is a quarter berth with electronics and additional storage above and outboard. Galley to port, with a gimbled Origo 6000 non-pressurized alcohol stove with oven (new 2014). This is an efficient and easy-to-use system, preferred by many long-distance cruisers for safety and simplicity. Large icebox, storage, and extra counter space from a folding extension. Stainless sink is supplied by Whale freshwater foot pump. Good pots and pans, sharp knives, wine glasses, insulated French press coffee maker. Ventilation from 9 opening bronze ports (most with screens), 2 overhead hatches wwith drop-over screens and one dorade vent. There is a full-length drop-in screen for the companionway. Additional light from three deck prisms. Cockpit Comfortable seating for 5, bench seats port and starboard with close-cell foam cushions. Edson pedestal with varnished mahogany wheel. Lewmar traveler on bridge deck and Raymarine autopilot at the binnacle bring all controls within reach of the helm.
